Why and how to have an unplugged ceremony

An unplugged ceremony is when you kindly request that guests don’t use their phones to take photos. As professional photographs and videographers,  this is an idea we can get behind! Below are several reasons why;

It keeps guests in the moment

If they're not worried about taking photos, guests will be able to listen intently to the details of the ceremony and of your love story!

Allows the professionals to get their shots

Nothing ruins a ceremony shot more than a smartphone in the way of the happy couple. The only thing worse than that is several smartphones in the way. When you hire a professional photographer, you do so based on their talents, so trust that they can capture your big day.

Prevents background noise

An unplugged ceremony means cell phones are away and on silent. Therefore, guests won't take photos and make noises. This can be distracting to the couple, other guests, and the videographer.

So, how do you have an unplugged wedding? Tell your guests, several times and in more ways than one. We recommend putting it on your wedding website, displaying a sign at the ceremony, and having your officiant remind guests to put their phones away and on silent.

If you’d like guests to have photos of your ceremony, you can have a “social media” break before starting once the couple is at the altar together. You can pose while guests get a minute or take photos before putting phones away.
